Lorne MacKenzie Portraits | Pet & Family Portrait Artist

About Lorne MacKenzie Portraits
I am a UK-based portrait artist specialising in handcrafted pastel portraits of pets and people.

Drawing has been a constant throughout my life. Over the years I have refined my approach to focus on character, subtle expression and natural detail - creating portraits that feel personal rather than simply photographic.

Working primarily in professional soft pastels, I also work with professional grade graphite and charcoal. I build each portrait gradually in layers, paying careful attention to light, texture and tone. The aim is always the same: to capture not just likeness, but presence.
My Approach
Every commission begins with a conversation.

I take time to review your reference photographs and discuss the composition to ensure the final piece reflects the personality of your pet or family member. from the first outline to final highlights, each stage is completed by hand in my studio.

I do not used digital filters or automated processes. each portrait is individually created using traditional techniques and professional materials.

Pets & People
Animals hold character in their eyes and posture; people reveal it through expression and gesture. My work focuses on preserving those subtle details that make a subject recognisable and meaningful.

Whether it is a loyal dog, a treasured horse, or a family portrait, the objective remains the consistent - a lasting piece of artwork that carries emotional weight.
